NAMES
Natural stones are named according to several criteria and therefore there is a great confusion of designations for the same stones. At
first, names were given in Italian because of the prevalence of that country in the commerce of marbles and natural stones. Names were
given regarding the color and the second part described the place of origin, like for example: Nero Marquina, a black marble from the
Marquina region in Spain; or Bianco Carrara, a white marble from the Italian region of Carrara.
But this does not always apply, as in the case of the Giallo Veneziano, which is Brazilian granite and not from Venice in Italy as one
might think. Ubatuba Green is a Brazilian granite that originally was extracted from the region of Ubatuba, but nowadays is found in
different places in Brazil and is also known as Labrador Green. Sometimes the name in the country of origin is different from the one
used when commercializing the stone, or different suppliers identify it individually to make a distinction from their competitors.
But the fact is that natural stone is a cluster of several minerals that provide each stone with a different appearance, even
if created with the same elements and originating from the same massif - enough reason to cause confusion when defining the stone one
is choosing.
